Baptism
the first Sacrament
Welcoming New Members Into the Family of God
Baptism is the first Sacrament of Christian initiation. Through Baptism, we are welcomed into the family of God, cleansed from sin, and begin our journey of faith in Jesus Christ.
At Christ Our Savior Roman Catholic Parish, we joyfully welcome families who desire to have their children baptized and those seeking Baptism as adults.
The Meaning of Baptism
Through the Sacrament of Baptism, we:
- Become members of the Church.
- Receive new life in Christ.
- Are welcomed into the Christian community.
- Begin our journey of faith as children of God.
- Are called to live according to the Gospel.
Baptism Preparation
Parents and godparents are encouraged to prepare prayerfully for the Sacrament. Baptism preparation helps families understand the meaning of Baptism and their responsibility in nurturing the child’s faith.
Preparation may include:
- Baptism orientation or seminar
- Registration with the parish
- Submission of required documents
- Selection of godparents
- Participation in the parish's required preparation activities
Godparents
Godparents have an important role in supporting the baptized person in their Christian life. They are called to be examples of faith and to help guide the child in growing closer to Christ and His Church.
Matthew 28:19
Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them…
